Consumer Evaluations

These BRK smoke alarms have issued alarms twice now, which lasted a number of hours every and resulted in lost function time. Initially, two of these would beep each and every minute and absolutely nothing I attempted would cease it, so I had them replaced, and then these seemed to be OK, but almost just about every night we would hear a 1 second alarm. Then 2 weeks later, the alarms went off steady and absolutely nothing we attempted would silence or reset them. We even had the gas corporation come out to check the gas applicances for CO2, because 2 of the units also had the CO2 detectors built in, but every thing checked out fine, so I just started unplugging the units until the alarms stopped. A handful of days later, the remaining three alarms that I still had connected began a further false alarm and ultimately stopped. I don't have time to place up with troubles like this, and it can result in not even believing your smoke alarms, when it can be a genuine fire! I only purchased these mainly because they were plug compatible with the Very first Alert, but I will have to rewire the plug and buy a better top quality brand.

My home came wired with about 12 of these with the battery back-up. Given that the 9 volt battery is supposed to power the whole system when electricity is lost they need to be replaced pretty often. They test at about 8.25 volts when required to be replaced. I have purchased a couple of these non-battery units to replace the ones in the cathedral ceiling that calls for a ladder to replace and will invariably start chirping at 2am on a cold winters morning. I have also replace the one particular in our unheated attic which suffers the identical fate.
As long as I can get to the unit I will stick with the battery back-ups but for those tough to reach places these electric models as a greater choice.
